Hiking on a Hot Day!

We went hiking over the weekend at Kamiak Butte! We were going to get an early start and beat the heat but that didn’t happen. Mom’s excuse: “everything takes longer than I think it will”. You can see that the wheat fields are very dry this time of year!
It was so great to see BLUE sky! The local wildfires have been contained which is a huge relief and most of the smoky air has cleared out.
Today is national Bow Tie day! We could not find my favorite color red bow tie mom says I need to keep my things better organized but really mom FORGOT where she put it.

Historic Houses in Browne’s Addition!

We went to the MAC museum to see the Wyeth exhibit again before it ends, but there was “A Situation” at the museum and no one could go in. So we walked around the neighborhood which is called Browne’s Addition where there are some amazing houses! An hour later some fire trucks came and went but we were still not allowed in the museum and they never told us what was happening it was a secret so we gave up waiting and went grocery shopping.
Some of the houses are really old but still beautifully maintained.
And this house! When we were looking for a house to buy this was one we considered, It’s so gorgeous but we decided not to buy it. Once in a while we drive past it and stop to admire it.
There are several wildfires in the area and LOTS of smoke. We cannot see across the valley. A couple of weeks ago there was a wildfire a few miles away and we were packing getting ready to evacuate but the wonderful fire-fighting planes did a great job and we did not have to leave – whew! Now there is a big fire at Medical Lake and the entire city had to evacuate! Medical Lake is about 20 miles from where we live and I worry about all the wild animals, livestock, and pets. Tigers especially. There was also the devastating wildfire on Maui and it is all so sad.
We have another adult foster cat! Her name is Pigeon which is a silly name for a cat – we are going to think up a better one. But it is funny because we have another foster cat named Birdie!

Finally a New Post!

It has been weeks since we posted anything we’ve been busy with projects around the house and mom says no one wants to see pictures of us fixing the towel racks or edging the lawn. But today I told mom we should take some pictures! So when we did errands right away mom FORGOT to take a picture at the Grain Shed where we buy our bread. Then we went to a library where instead of grass they have wildflowers that do not need to be mowed! It’s awesome!
Then we went to Fred Meyer for grocery shopping. It is a very big store with so much stuff!
Then in the evening we were invited to a neighborhood party! We have the best neighbors!

Galapagos Postcard!

OMG!!! The best thing happened! This is Diane who HAND DELIVERED a post card from the Galapagos that Auntie Darcy and Cousin Nicolyn sent us! When you visit the Galapagos you drop off your mail in a barrel and then other people look through the barrel and take mail that they are able to deliver. No stamp needed! It is not the fastest mail service but very personalized. Diane was super nice and super beautiful!
In some of the forest in our neighborhood there has been fire mitigation work. This is what part of the hill looks like.
This is the hill on the other side of the trail. It’s nice and green now but will get dried out as the summer progresses. It is pretty right now though!

Cabinet Hinge Woes

Well. Fixing a broken cabinet hinge turned out to be quite the adventure. It was the cabinet door that we use 100 times a day, the one under the sink. So we cleverly borrowed the hinge from a cabinet we almost never use, which took a while because it did not want to be removed! Then we had to find a replacement for that cabinet and guess what there are none of the right kind in the local hardware stores. So we looked online and guess what they don’t make the exact kind we have anymore. We ordered one that looked like it would work and it took forever to get delivered. Then guess what it did not fit or attach the same way, but we figured out how to use part of the old hinge with part of the new hinge and it is working! We were glad to cross that off the To-Do list!
Here is our foster cat Yasmine looking adorable. She is getting braver about exploring.
We put out bowls of dog water when the weather gets warm and one day when we came home someone had left a thank you note from their dog Dasher. I love this neighborhood!

A Bike Ride with HORSES!!!!!!!!!

We went on a long bike ride today to look for horses to take photos of. Most of them were too far away to get good pictures with me in them. This one posed nicely for us.
Here we are at the James Slavin Conservation Area. They have fixed up the parking lot so now there is lots of parking for horse trailers! Mom did a good job framing the photo to get the porta potty in the picture.
We also saw llamas and goats and cows.
OMG!!!! Then the most amazing thing happened! We met Gabriella riding Cricket and Chris riding Duchess and Chris asked if I would like to ride with her!!!!!! OMG!!! Chris and Gabriella were super nice and are so beautiful and their horses were so nice and gentle! Best Day Ever!

Home Made Bread !!!

We made whole wheat bread from scratch !! It could have been a review of what not to do when baking bread! Like make sure you have all the ingredients before you start ( we did not have molasses so used honey instead) and make sure you have fresh yeast (ours was past the expiration date) and make sure you have all your equipment (mom could not find the loaf pan), But it still turned out okay! It would have been better if it had Tiger stripes on it though.
The local art museum has an exhibition of three generations of Wyeth art – it was amazing! mom has a book of Andrew Wyeth paintings but seeing some in person is entirely different and really wonderful.
We went for a bike ride to look at horses!!! We did see some but they were far off in fields and not good photo opportunities. So here is a picture of a country road with farms and ranches but no horsies.
There is a fancy rug store that we had never been to but we got a ad from them in the mail saying that rugs were half price. So we were able to afford one of the smallest rugs they had. It is really high quality and Heathcliff loves it! mom keeps telling the cats not to barf on it.

A Turnbull Hike on a Sunny Day!

What a beautiful day! We had a long winter and a short spring because it already feels like summer! 85 degrees out; it was windy so that helped us not feel so hot.
Here I am with some of the wildflowers we saw.
OMG there was a big breakthrough with our foster cat Yasmine. After 5 weeks of hiding, hissing, and growling, she decided to come out and be petted! Now we know what she looks like! Isn’t she gorgeous? She is a dilute calico with blue eyes and she is a real sweet cat.

Update – Foster Cat Chili

Here is one of our current foster cats Chili, he is doing so great! At first he just wanted to hide but then he started coming out to be petted and he loves cuddling. He wanted to explore but only if mom would accompany him it was very funny! He was underfoot a lot! But now he is venturing out on his own!
This is a very funny picture of Chili’s tummy! He is on a diet.
Our friend Evan from work came over to learn how to make soap but mom FORGOT to get a picture. So here is a picture of some of the soap. Evan is a welder and is super nice and super handsome.

It. Just. Keeps. Snowing.

This photo is from about a week ago but mom FORGOT to help me do a blog post. It has actually stopped snowing now but I really wanted to use this blog title last week. When mom FORGOT.
This weekend we went to Coeur d’Alene! We walked around downtown and looked in some shops and we also went to a park where there was a trail and beautiful views of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
There were not many boats out on the water. It was very cold and windy!
We have some new foster cats! This is Chili! He is very handsome and is also very big – 19 pounds! He needs help being socialized. He came from the same house as Heathcliff; it was a very small house with a lot of cats. Mom thinks Chili and Heathcliff might even be brothers!
This is Yasmine a beautiful dilute calico who is very scared and shy. She was found abandoned in in an apartment. What a terrible thing no wonder she is scared. She is safe with us now.
