About a week ago we had some snow and we did some shoveling. Then it got very very cold! Here you can see the car says the temperature is 3 degrees at 4:01 pm. It has been getting well below zero overnight ! Brrrr!I am a Tiger and I have a nice fur coat but it is so cold I wanted to borrow mom’s Titanic beanie hat. Which was a gift from Auntie Darcy and that makes it extra special. You can see it is a well used hat.
We have had moose visiting! Here is a photo our awesome neighbor Jen sent of a moose in our backyard! This is the first time we’ve had a moose with a tag, so now we will know if the same moose stops by again. Then one night we looked out the window and there was a moose walking around, and eventually decided to lay down. It was too dark to see who it was and we did not want to turn on the outside lights. We love having wildlife visit. At the library we go to a lot they now have a puzzle exchange, where you can leave a puzzle or take a puzzle, and there are several puzzles on a big table that you can work on if you feel like it.There is also a yarn exchange at the library! What a great idea! There are a bunch of cubbies and the yarn is organized by color. It is also very fun for a Little TIGER to play in the cubbies. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
For Christmas Day we went to a party at our awesome neighbors house! Here I am with Joni and Gary and Tyler and Linda. We had some great food with great company and the women were so beautiful and the men so handsome! Everyone loved our roasted brussels sprouts and potato dish! Although in my humble opinion we could have left out the brussels sprouts.Near our house up higher on the ridge a developer has cleared the land and is putting up big retaining walls. Then they will build new houses! We used to walk through the woods here.We went for a hike in Coeur d’Alene! I always have a hard time spelling that.It was a super sunny day and wonderful views! We met this really nice family visiting from Seattle. They told us we were smart to move to Spokane because the traffic is much worse now in Seattle. Mom FORGOT to get their names but the women were gorgeous and the men so handsome!
We are putting together gift bags for friends! Whoever invented gift bags is a genius! Sometimes people must end up with their own bag back but with different gifts in it (hopefully). We put some things in one bag we had and then noticed that it had a sticker on it with names of people we don’t know: from Amy to Frances. So that bag has been passed around! We got some presents from Auntie Darcy! They have real wrapping paper on them. We use wrapping paper sometimes too and wonder if people notice that every year it is the same wrapping paper! Until the giant roll is gone and we buy a new one. Then I noticed that the black paper with holiday lights in the photo looks familiar…. I think that Auntie Darcy also has a giant roll of wrapping paper.
It snowed all night and then it warmed up and even rained a little. We had to shovel a lot of wet heavy snow! Our awesome neighbor Blake cleared our sidewalk with his snowblower and then our awesome neighbor Steve helped us shovel! Then later a plow came through and made a huge berm blocking the driveway. We had to go shovel again! There was a small lake of water at the end of the driveway so we made a trench for it to drain. We went to the theater to see She Loves Me! Our friend David is playing the lead role of Georg Nowack!!! It is a very funny play and all the actors were amazing, David was terrific and is super handsome and sings wonderfully. Our friend Carolyn came with us to see the show but she did not want to be in the picture. She is very beautiful and also very funny. This photo is from afterwards when the actors changed into their regular clothes to go home.We finished replacing part of the carpet in the basement! Mon did not want me to post a picture of it because it was not good. Mom says that somewhere, some other do-it-yourselfer who replaced carpeting must have done a worse job than she did. But I am not so sure! We have two pieces of advice for anyone who wants to replace their own carpeting. First, get a knife like the red one in the photo. Red is my favorite color but more importantly it is designed to cut carpet and does not have the blade thumb control like a regular utility knife that causes blisters on your hand when you cut a lot of carpeting. Second – hire a professional!
We had the first big snowstorm of the season! Here are some trees in the front yard – it sure is pretty! The snow was very deep, even for a TIGER!While we waited for the roads to get plowed we did indoor things such as replace a 3 x 12 strip of carpeting in the basement. Mom figured it would take a professional about an hour to do so she thought it would take us about 4 hours. We are now 5 hours into it and it still isn’t done. Mom thinks the pros must have a much better utility knife than the one we have and it is very fiddly to change the blades. At least one entire hour has been spent changing the blades in the knife. Mom has only stabbed herself once. We are taking a little break for a few days.
Here I am with John from Smith Heating, working on our gas fireplace. It is running great now! John came out a few weeks ago but never got to work on the fireplace because the furnace had some major issues and he spent the day on that. We now have a new furnace and it is also working great! It is good to have reliable heat because winter is coming or already here depending on your viewpoint. It snowed! And it also gets very cold overnight. Here are some things that have happened recently that mom FORGOT to get pictures of. New furnace being installed. Yasmin had her first visit to the vet and she did great and was brave. Mom got a flu shot. We went to an arts fair and ran into our friends Betty and Dawn. There was a Veteran’s Day potluck at work and mom got a cool tote bag as a gift for being a veteran. Mom made roasted brussel sprouts (ha ha that is a joke, we do not need a picture of Brussel Sprouts!)
Our local Farmers Market is over for the season. Winter is almost here and the vendors deserve a break! Here is our favorite vegie stand – Tolstoy Farms! We will miss the amazing fresh and delicious produce! Here is one of our new foster cats – her name is Felicity, she came from a hoarder and had some medical issues. Almost all her teeth had to be removed! She is petite and has the sweetest face! So far she has not let mom pet her.Our other new foster cat is orange and white and may be a calico but we have not really seen her yet. She likes to hide in this donut. We’ve seen a little bit of her face and rear end when she is not completely hidden at the back of the donut. When mom leaves treats she eats them shortly after mom leaves the room. So we have hope that she will relax and be friendly eventually.
We went to see the Grand Coulee Dam! It is enormous! This is about half of it! It is the largest hyrdopower producer in the United States and can power 4.2 million homes. This is the Columbia River on the output side of the dam. It is spectacular!Along the river there are all kinds of beautiful coves and bays. It is a really great area to explore! We stopped at Steamboat Rock Park! It was a gorgeous day, sunny and warm. Cold weather is on the way!
This is Tigger our new foster kitten! Another foster mom named him and it suits him. He is very active and bouncy. The other foster mom had to travel for work so we volunteered to take over! This is Leon! He is Tigger’s brother. They are about 6-7 weeks old and are doing great! This is the mama cat; she is super sweet and is doing a super job with the kittens but it is tiring work.A couple weeks ago we had an overnight guest; this kitty was lost so we offered to put her up for the night. This is what happens when the neighborhood knows you foster cats. Our neighbor Jenn figured out who she belonged to so it was a happy reunion the next day!
