San Franciso – Chinatown!

Chinatown in San Franciso is the largest Chinatown outside Asia and is also the oldest Chinatown in North America! We had a blast visiting! There was so much to see!
This the the fortune cookie factory. We thought it would be an enormous factory but it is two ladies making cookies! They work so fast I could not bend the cookies fast enough with my paws.
Mom bought us a vegan Mooncake! I was not sure I would like it I wanted the pork one but mom was buying it mostly for herself (!) but it was delicious! Very interesing lotus flower flavor.
We also visited the Palace Hotel in downtown San Franciso. It is famous and many famous people have stayed here and the hotel has also been featured in movies. They let us in so we could walk around and even use the bathroom! It was a very nice bathroom.
Here is another picture of the Palace Hotel. It was beautiful and snazzy!!!

San Francisco Part 2

We went to the Hyde Street Pier! Where there are all kinds of historically important ships and boats! Auntie Darcy and mom sweet talked their way in at the entrance and did not have to pay (actually they were only asking about discounts and reeling off all their possible statuses such as almost a senior).
Here I am on the Balclutha a three masted square rigger built in 1886!
That is a lot of rigging!
This is part of two exhibits at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art! An Alexander Calder sculpture in front of the Living Wall, designed by David Brenner Principal and Lead Designer of Habitat Horticulture.
And here I am with Auntie Darcy in the color tunnel by Olafur Eliasson! The tunnel is so cool!!! It looks different at different times of day, different angles, and which way you are walking through the tunnel. Further back in a gallery you can see part of a very large sculpture by Yayoi Kusama. We had a blast at the art museum!

San Francisco Visit – OMG!!!!

We went on a trip to San Francisco!!! And met Auntie Darcy there!!! OMG!!!
We rode the cable cars all the time it was so much fun!!! The place we stayed was near multiple cable car lines and it was so handy to get up and down the hills. I am a Tiger I do not mind running up and down hills but it made mom tired so we rode the cable cars a lot.
Here I am at the Cable Car Museum! Which is inside the PowerHouse for the cable cars and you can see the big motors and gearboxes and sheaves that move the cables. It is amazing and super interesting! If you visit San Francisco I highly recommend it!
Oh wow we went to see The Golden Gate Bridge!!! Here it is from a distance.
We walked on the bridge! It is noisy and not really much fun. Here is the bridge close up but it is kind of fuzzy.
Here the bridge is clearer but I am all fuzzy. Stay tuned for more posts about the trip!

Cucumbers!!!!

Our home grown cucumbers are starting to be ready to harvest! This is the first one and it is a little small but I could not wait!!! It was DELICIOUS!
We went to Jiffy Lube to get the oil changed in the car and it was so fun! You can sit in the car or go in the lounge and that is what we did. We got to watch the cars getting worked on there are big pits in the floor and the employees go downstairs to drain the oil and that is also where they store filters and stuff. It was so interesting and everyone was super nice.
This is our foster cat Groucho who is not grouchy at all he is friendly and very playful and fun. But he has a raspy meow that sounds like a grouchy old man ! He grew fast and got big and strong and he has gone back to the shelter to be adopted already.
Now we have Flynn who has gorgeous golden brown splotches on his coat. He arrived at the shelter covered in fleas and had multiple baths and flea meds but when we brought him home he still had dozens of fleas. Mom has spent a lot of time flea combing him and Flynn loves it! He lays in her lap and purrs and makes biscuits the whole time.

Foster Cat Update

This is Cumulus who is very sweet but is extremely shy and wants to hide most of the time. She was trapped as part of a TNR (trap-neuter-return) program but someone realized she was terrified, not feral. She likes to be petted and purrs and makes biscuits.
OMG these adorable fluffy kittens are Ana and Elsa! They were sick and needed 2 kinds of medicine which they did not like. But they got healthy and playful and have been adopted!
We volunteered at the first SCRAPS Snip event where 100 dogs (actually I think it was 97, a few did not show up) were spayed\neutered for free! It was a collaboration between 7 organizations, took about 50 volunteers including 3 veterinarians and many vet techs, many hours of work, and more than a little chaos. It was great!
Here I am at an arts event on a beautiful sunny day. We ran into our friend Latitia but mom FORGOT to get a picture.
The event was at a winery and people could buy wine and drink while looking a the art, so there were people carrying around bottles of wine and drinking haha! I wanted some wine to drink but mom said No.

Blueberries !!!!!

We went Blueberry picking OMG Tigers LOVE blueberries!!! Piper Farms is amazing and has many different varieties of blueberries.
The weather is a little bit cooler now so it is more enjoyable to be outside. Here I am at Manito Park!
Mom spends a lot of time putzing around in our yard but it does not look anywhere near as nice as Manito Park!
Yesterday we went for a hike at Turnbull Wildlife Refuge we had not been there for months! Some areas near ponds, streams or wetlands are nice and green.
Other areas are very very dry. The fire danger level is not just high it is Extreme! Everyone needs to be extra careful to prevent wildfires.

Our Own Carrots!!!

Look at the carrots we grew in our own garden! The seeds are super tiny it is amazing that they turn into these big carrots. I am a carnivore I hope mom likes carrots.
Some days it is very smoky from wildfires; this day was not too bad so we could go for a walk in the woods but you can see it is a little hazy.
Mom had surgery on her hand! To fix a finger that did not work very well it is something about a tendon getting stuck in a pulley. She is doing fine and getting better. I wanted to take a picture of the stitches but mom said No.

The Latest House Disaster!

Earlier this week the house had a water hammer! That is when the plumbing air chambers have a problem, or air gets stuck in a line, or something like that. I am a Tiger I drink dew from the grass and go potty outside. Anyway, when the sprinklers came on at 3:30 am it sounded like a locomotive was barreling through the house. Mom got up at 3:31 am and turned off the sprinklers, drained all the water lines (twice) but it did not get better. When she flushed the toilet the windows would rattle! It was kind of funny but mom was stressed out and crabby because she had to hand water all week and it’s very hot outside. We called the plumber and Brandon from Gold Seal Plumbing came out and replaced the pressure regulator and everything is better now and the sprinkler system is working again and we have WAY MORE water pressure than before – it’s amazing! But mom FORGOT to get a picture of me with Brandon so here is a picture of me with the new regulator – it’s a nice one.
We went to the Farmers Market this morning! It’s so great! We got bread and sesame seed bagels from the man who makes the best bread in Spokane it’s called Viva Ultra Bread. Tigers LOVE bagels!

Heat Pump Problem – Solved!

Our Heat Pump that provides air conditioning conked out on the HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR! It was 105 degrees! It was not a pleasant evening. But the very next day JW from Smith Heating and AC came to troubleshoot it and had it running again in less than half an hour he replaced the capcator  capasater a really important part needed to make it work. After that mom was happy again. Mom FORGOT to get a picture with JW so here I am with the heat pump.
The broccoli in the garden is all done; it does not like the hot weather anyway. Now we have planted cucumbers! Here is a seedling. Or it may be a weed.
The lavender likes the hot sunny days!

Sugar Snap Peas!

These are sugar snap peas that we grew in our garden! They are delicious and mom eats a lot of them just standing in the garden but some make it into the house.
Here are our newest foster kittens! They are brothers and best friends! Waylon on the left had an eye infection but he has been getting meds for it and it is looking much better now. His brother is darker orange and is named Willie they came from the shelter with their names. They are super playful and adorable and are orange little Tigers!
